Abstract

This short paper briefly describes the methods used for collation and dissemination of traffic and travel information in the ROMANSE project in Southampton, Cologne and Piraeus. Special attention is given to Southampton. Here the system is used to provide: a) urban traffic control; b) car parking information; c) traffic monitoring; d) public transport travel information; e) automatic speed detection via infrared TrafficMaster detectors; and f) automatic vehicle location for buses. Travel information is also provided both via CEEFAX and via the telephone. Brief details of the Cologne VIKTORIM urban traffic management system are also provided. The Piraeus system is called PORTS, and provides travel and traffic information to users of the port.
