Abstract

Emerging advances in remote sensing and spatial information technologies offer new opportunities for extending its applications to specialized transportation services. Space based technology applications considered in this paper are the global positioning system (gps) that enables positioning and navigation, commercial remote sensing advances that provide high resolution imagery capabilities and spatial information technologies that offer precise geographic location and geometric positioning. Space based technology integrated with its offers the potential for expanding into new user services, such as responding to non-recurring and unplanned incidents, infrastructure asset management, and congestion mitigation.
