Abstract

An overview is given of the European experience with special crosswalks. There are basically two types of crosswalks in Europe, the zebra crosswalk and the pedestrian activated signalised crosswalk. The crosswalks in the continent are of uniform design. Crosswalks in the U.K. are of different design but uniform throughout the U.K. With respect to legislation, education, enforcements and engineering warrants; there is no uniformity among the countries in Europe.
