Abstract

The Special Safety Improvement Program includes all projects, the prime purpose of which is to reduce the number and severity of accidents on the existing highway system. The program responds to the public need for safe transportation. Porjects may be at spot locations where accident history indicates a pattern susceptible to correction by a safety improvement, or they may be systemwide improvements involving highway elements which are associated with accidnet frequency or severity.
