Abstract

The results of more extensive and specific spot checks on vehicles and their loads serve - after exact computer-supported processing - as information for the decision-making organisations, the supervisory bodies and the public. In the private sector, modern management instruments are used as a matter of course and checks can be carried out more effectively and efficiently. Acceptance and observance of the safety and environmental regulations are achieved by giving priority to the principle of perseverance, and by providing the road user with sensible criteria and information. The use of the results in the training provided by supervisory bodies and through informal contacts with other agencies, as well as publicity, create a snowball effect and, in the end, lead to a reduction of the total cost of checks carried out by government.
