Abstract

This issue of Current Topics includes over 60 abstracts of reports, conference papers, books and journal articles which focus on the relationship between driving speed and road accidents. Specific topics covered include: drivers' choice of speed; the effectiveness of various deterrent and intervention measures such as the use of speed cameras, speed limiters, driver activated speed warning signs, appropriate road design and traffic calming measures in urban areas; before and after studies of traffic calming and relaxation of speed limits; attitudes to speed cameras and the effectiveness of public awareness campaigns. These items have been selected from the material added to the Transport Research Laboratory's Library Database between 2002 and 2004. Much of the relevant English language published literature from the UK, USA, Australia and Europe is included; some of the non-UK literature is included courtesy of the OECD International Transport Research Documentation (ITRD) database. The previous edition of this title, CT84.2, covered articles added to the database between 2000 and 2001 (see C 18864 S).
