Abstract

Speed control humps designed at TRRL have had a one year trial on two public roads; Abbotsbury road, Kensington and Barlanark road, Glasgow. Details are given of the method of construction of the humps and the effects of the installation on public opinion, traffic and accidents. The speed control humps on these roads appeared to be effective in reducing vehicle speed and traffic flow. They were acceptable to the majority of residents and drivers. In the one year trial period the numbers of traffic casualties were marginally less than before but the reduction was not statistically significant. (Author/publisher)
