Speed estimation through restricted visual field during driving in day and night : naso-temporal hemifield differences.

Abstract

The principal concern of the paper is the relationship between optic flow and the size and hemifield of the restricted visual input. In an empirical study is demonstrated that subjective speed is a cube and square root function of the size of the peripheral hemifield, during day and night, respectively. The reports finding that the exponent is larger in the nasal hemifield is adduced as support for the dominations of speed estimation by the right hemisphere.
