Abstract

The need for action in the field of traffic safety is clearly illustrated by an analysis of fatalities and the striking comparison of rates between South Africa and other countries. It is shown that many contributory factors for traffic accident causation can be analysed in terms of speed. Arguments are put forward for a concept that speed limitation should vary with the design conditions of the facilities.
