As part of the European research project DUMAS (Developing Urban Management and Safety) a general framework for planning, design and evaluation of speed management programmes in urban areas has been developed. The framework has been provided using current practices and experiences on speed management in Denmark, the United Kingdom and the Netherlands. The main purpose of the framework is to help local technicians, traffic planners and policy makers to use speed management as an urban safety measure. The paper details the main features of the developed framework. (A)
