Abstract

Measurements were made during the summer of 1973 of speed/ flow relations for traffic on improved and unimproved sections of the a66 penrith-cockermouth road. This work formed part of a study being undertaken to establish whether there is a difference between speed/flow relations for recreational and other rural roads. Observed speeds appeared to be more than 10 per cent lower than speeds predicted by established methods for rural roads of comparable standard outside recreational areas. (Author/publisher)
