Abstract

The demerit point system seems to be a good predictor of future driving behaviour: the number of further points acquired is reasonable stable over time as is the number of convictions registered by drivers in each point group. Despite this, knowledge of the driver's status three or more years ago does not help too much in identifying drivers at high or low risk of accident today.
