Abstract

The motor vehicle as a system under the action of two external force systems, those due to the tyres, and those due to aerodynamic forces are considered. The effect of the tyre forces, providing as they do the major force system, is considered first in terms of the characteristics roots, static margin and understeer with respect to speed.
