Abstract

In 1998, Dutch parliament will decide about the taxi policy the government proposed. This policy implies strong deregulation of the taxi sector. There are five important areas of special interest: capacity, tariffs, quality, area of transport and maintenance. In order to be able to monitor the effects of the taxi policy, there has been done a before survey which covers the state of the art of the taxi sector in 1997. The before survey looks closely at both supply and demand of the taxi sector. The demand is investigated by means of: (1) a survey among 2.024 users and non-users; and (2) by means of a stated preference. The supply is investigated by means of a survey among 414 taxi firms.
