Abstract

This paper discusses the specification for a high-speed automotive network based on IEEE1394.b. It represents the state of discussion in the 1394TA Automotive Working Group and presents the various groups concerns. The common ground the specification has started on was the use of well-known existing standards of the consumer electronics industry. This strategy gives on one hand proven capabilities and standards and on the other hand the automotive version will profit from the mass market, which has already been established.
