Abstract

Transmodel is a conceptual data model which is offered as a European reference for public transport. Its development took place during European research and development projects and is continued during the current TITAN project, especially with a trial validation of the model in three pilot sites. Besides the technical interest of this work, numerous questions are asked about the interest of a standard in the domain of conceptual data structures, on how the requirements of such a standard (stability, dissemination, certification) can be compatible with the rapid evolution of computer techniques, and on the economic basis of the technical work necessary to the life of the reference model. The project TITAN 2, supported by the European Commission, is aimed at taking into account these aspects and to prepare the transition from a theoretical reference to an actually used standard.
