Abstract
With the rapid developments within Intelligent Transport Systems the demand for digital road map products has increased considerably over the years. These are of use to, for example, fleet and traffic management systems, emergency/accident warning and alarm systems, multimedia travel guides linked to in-vehicle turn-by-turn navigation systems, also Geographic Information Systems (GIS) for environmental evaluation and utility management, telecommunication, as well as geomarketing, and finally consumer applications like route planners, travel guides, yellow page guides etc.
