Abstract

Navigation applications are currently being introduced in the market. However the current situation impedes evolution into a large scale massmarket adoption. This situation mainly refers to the fact that the media containing the map data are not interoperable between navigation systems. The article presents an overview of the current standardization activities in the field of traffic information applications, and gives an overview of the current work of the Working Groups for the ISO/TC204 on the standardization of Traffic Information and Control System (TICS) databases.
