Standardisation issues in the field of traffic data exchange in Germany.

Abstract

Standardisation problems to come to better traffic data and information exchange between centres in Germany are scrutinized. Differences when collecting traffic data and distributing them to motorists are outlined. There are at least two different architectural systems. To collect traffic data ("Low level communication") is a "hierarchical" system with a fixed and stable architecture while exchanging of traffic data between Traffic Control Centres (TCC's) and Traffic Information Centres (TIC's) ("high level communication") an "open" architecture for a peer-to-peer relationship defines. The elaboration of general requirements for "High level communication" shows there is a need to specify the communication interface between TCC's and TIC's among each other. The "Datex-Net Specifications for Interoperability" developed by the DATEX Task Force in the context of an EC project are under investigation by different projects if they fullfil the requirements.
