Abstract

Standardization problems cause high efforts in maintenance of traffic control equipment. Also extensions of the hardware and software used in urban traffic control systems are often expensive because of the lack of standardization and economic competition. This paper reports on the intensive application of standards in traffic control and management launched through a substitution of an old-fashioned traffic process-control computer by using a new PC-based system. This progress made it possible to apply many standards known from the PC-environment instead of machine-fitted handmade software. (A*)
