Abstract

The paper demonstrates by example that traditional standards of proof in road safety research should be reviewed in the context of the particular study of accident risks under consideration. The example compares accident involvement rate per kilometer driven of first year drivers who took their licence test in an automatic car (A) and subsequently drove and crashed in a manual car (M), with the rates of drivers with other combinations of A and M.
