Standards in road database exchange : the RADEF experience.

Abstract

This paper addresses the issues of exchange of highway database information between European public road administrations, as experienced in the RADEF project. The paper describes what RADEF is, what was achieved and how it was achieved. The issues include gaining consensus on a data model and data dictionary and the standards process. It shows the need for good Informtion Technology systems which can improve the productivity of European highways agencies and road administrations in the field of data exchange of highway information. It also shows the need for good cooperation and consensus in order to achieve a result that is satisfactory to every party. (A)
