Abstract

The fundamental considerations involved in the handling qualities of motor vehicles are first reviewed in the context of guidance and control requirements. The contribution of the vehicle to safety and the complexities of the driver vehicle specific terms involving various methodological approaches. These approaches include vehicle response parameters and performances. A brief outline of the history of the development of aircraft handling qualities criteria and specifications in given and the aircraft experience is examined with a view towards comparing the problem areas common to both classes of vehicles. An outline of an experiment approach to standards using task performance is given.
