The 47th Stapp Car Crash Journal includes papers presented at the Stapp Car Crash Conference, held October 2003 in San Diego, Calif., This conference is the premier forum for the presentation of research in impact biomechanics, human injury tolerance, and related fields that advance the knowledge of land-vehicle crash injury and occupation protection. This year's journal contains 24 peer-reviewed papers that cover a wide range of timely and important topics including abdomen response and simulation, the effect of impact angle, and biomechanics of 4-point seat belt systems in frontal impacts. New for this year's journal: * Data on the biomechanics of injury and human tolerance; * Methods and tools to study the biomechanics of injury; * Developments in occupant protection systems; * Concepts on the biomechanics of injury based on experimental and analytical studies. All papers have been contributed by researchers and safety engineers at the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, Ford Motor Company, Renault, the University of Michigan Transportation Research Institute, Wayne State University, University of Virginia, Michigan State University and many other companies, organizations, universities, and medical research facilities.
