Abstract

The research investigated 5027 motor vehicle accidents to determine the adequacy of state Motor Vehicle Records (MVR) for evaluating driver performance. The results suggest that state MVR's would be unsatisfactory as a sole or major source of information for determining auto insurance premiums. The study also raises serious questions about the MVR's for driver licensing and other safety related purposes.
