Abstract

The local governments' need to assume greater responsibility in transit implementation and their lack of resources to perform that function is discussed. The history of the Maryland Department of Transport is reviewed and an overview is presented of its transit programs. The funds and expenditure patterns of the DOT are described, as is also, the formation of the consolidated transportation program which involves two series of transportation programs. The operation of the Baltimore Metropolitan Area bus system is outlined.
