Statewide highway safety program assessment : a national estimate of performance.

Abstract

A systematic approach was made to assess the development and achievements of U.S. highway safety programs. Topics among them are: (1) The national highway safety cost; (2) Drinking driver countermeasures; (3) Emergency medical services; (4) Traffic safety education; (5) Driver licensing; (6) Periodic motor vehicle inspection; and (7) Police traffic services and adjudication. Key statistics are presented and a summary of findings is also given.
