Abstract

Based upon formal statistics, the number of road and street accidents in Iran is very high; surveys reveal that it is ten times more than the average number in the world. In this paper accidents in Khuzistan province and Ahvaz, one of the largest cities of Iran, have been studied from different aspects which include the number of accidents, kind of accident, number of fatalities, their age, gender (sex), and finally, the type of driving offence. The amount of annual damage imposed on society has been calculated and at last some recommendations and suggestions for a reduction in the number of accidents have been discussed. For the covering abstract see ITRD E128680.
