Abstract

In the paper results about the statistical analysis and dimensioning of FCD systems for typical situations in road traffic are presented. Under the assumption of the validity of the Central Limit Theorem for the random variable speed the minimal rate of FCD vehicles is determined for typical traffic pattern by means of confidence estimation. Consequences for traffic monitoring by FCD-technology are discussed. Some parts of the paper are based on results of the project "Road Traffic Monitoring by Satellite" (RTMS) of the European Space Agency (ESA) currently processed by the Dutch company ARS Traffic & Transport Technology and Dresden University of Technology. For the covering abstract see ITRD E209471.
