Abstract

The object of the first study was to use the statistical methods of research for the prevention of traffic accident. The introduction is followed by the following chapters: - specifying and restricting subject, - driving at intersections as a process of decision making, - comparison of intersection and all traffic accident, - properties of intersection accidents resulting in personal injury, - principal component analysis of intersection accidents resulting in personal injury, - intersection accidents which result in personal injury in the winter, summer and autumn month, - countermeasures, - conclusions. The principal purpose of the latter study is to form a basis for actual research of accidents occurring in the dark, especially in Finland. The emphasis is laid on the particularly dangerous position of pedestrians in traffic in the dark.
