Abstract

The need for nationwide statistics of people's travelling habits in sweden has gradually become more accentuated. The purpose of this study was: 1) to exemplify the information that may be included in such statistics, 2) to test the interviewing method as regards its usefulness in collecting statistics of travel habits. An overlapping objective is to create statistics of travelling habits to describe the extent and development of overall travelling in different regions, broken down by means and type of travel. Based on samples of a size not sufficient for ordinary reports on facts of travel habits, these statistics were collected. Means of travel was split up into the following categories: public transport, cars-drivers, cars-passengers, motorcycles, mopeds, pedal cycles, on foot, and other. Type of travel was divided into the following categories: work, business & office, school, shopping, service, recreational, industrial, commercial, and other. It was found that the questionnaire had served its purpose well.
