Abstract

Each year and for over 30 years, the bfu has issued a separate publication on accident statistics for non-occupational accidents. Since 2009, this central reference work has been called STATUS. The data contained in STATUS helps the bfu and other prevention institutions to correctly assess the accident situation and to implement measures where needed. Exciting time series are created when data and evaluations are systemised over the years. In turn, these time series enable statements to be made on developments in accident situations. The development of road traffic fatalities is always impressive. In 1971, 1,773 people died on Swiss roads. Despite an increase in the volume of traffic, this number dropped to 216 in 2016 — the lowest it has been since 1945. (Author/publisher)
