Abstract

The paper focuses on the development of GDF (Geographic Data Files) as a standard for digital road maps. It also describes the creation of the European digital road map which was made possible by a standard. The expected growth of mass market applications, such as car information systems which is possible through the availability of a uniform European digital road map, is also discussed. (A)
