Status of energy absorption in steering columns

This presentation updates the knowledge and describes the hard-ware of the heneral Motors energy absorbing steering column.It introduces a new energy absorbing column jacket called the"ball energy"absorber" for the 1969 automobiles and describesreasons for its use. The energy is absorbed by rows of ballswhich form grooves in the surface of the column jacket tubeduring absorption.
