Abstract

In relation to road accidents, different levels of investigation are necessary to improve understanding of how and why accidents occur and to identify effective countermeasures. These range from statistical analysis of large numbers of accidents to multi-disciplinary in-depth analysis. In order to overcome the problem of large variations in the quality and availability of road accident national and international data, a unified system of accident analysis methodology would greatly facilitate and encourage expansion of scientific community-wide research into common problems and solutions.
