Abstract

Random breath testing (RBT) has been the single most effective tool in the struggle to reduce the road toll in the history of New South Wales. Initially it began as a highly controversial measure but it now has widespread public support. Recommendations are 1) that the necessary legislation be passed to ensure that RBT becomes a permanent part of the law and (2) that the police force continue to be the body responsible for the day to day operation of RBT.
