Abstract

Two criteria are devised for the definition of urban agglomerate in the Netherlands for use in comparative international statistics. The first is based on geographical-morphological evidence. The second, which appears to be preferred, is based on socio-economic relations. As such is used the extent and the direction of the commuting traffic are also provided by the censuses of the population.
