Abstract
TARCO VEJ A/S has developed a series of products, based on electric arc steel slags. A properly selected slag can be manufactured into a strong and abrasion resistant aggregate. The weak hydraulic effect of the slag combined with excellent affinity of bitumen to the alkaline aggregate surface yields products with extremely good abrasion properties. Due to the high resistance to wear the slag material is ideal for use in thin asphalt overlays. Examples are given of typical uses of electric arc steel slags in thin asphalt overlays with different techniques: thin hot mix wearing courses, slurry surfacings and surface dressings.
