Abstract

The national program to implement the products of the Strategic Highway Research Program (SHRP) got its start in 1992, when FHWA, working with the American Association of State Highway, and Transportation Officials (AASHTO) and the Transportation Research Board (TRB), outlined a plan for SHRP implementation. Since then, FHWA has periodically published status reports summarizing progress toward implementation. This edition of the status report summarizes the key activities and milestones in 1996. The many activities outlined in this report owe their existence largely to the members of technical working groups and expert task groups on SHRP implementation. The members, from highway agencies, universities, and industry, shaped the scope, structure, and content of the SHRP implementation program. Over the years, they continued to monitor the progress of implementation. In conjunction with FHWA's activities in SHRP implementation, State highway agencies are beefing up their activities. The AASHTO Task Force on SHRP Implementation is coordinating these activities.
