Abstract

This article reflects on a 2-year Urban Traffic Management and Control (UTMC) partnership and what it has achieved to date for travellers in Leeds. The partnership of Mott MacDonald and Leeds City Council are rationalising, upgrading and extending the Leeds UTMC facility via delivery of software, hardware and Intelligent Transport System (ITS) consultancy. Leeds City Council hopes this use of ITS will enhance transport in and around the city for all users. The core of the project is delivery of the Common Data Management Facility (CDMF). CDMF is a UTMC-compliant database facilitating data exchange between compliant ITS systems. CDMF also provides key applications such as fault and asset management, which facilitate day-to-day task of control room operators. The cornerstone for delivery of public travel information is the website 'Leeds Travel Info' (http://www.leedstravel.info). Utilising date held in the CDMF, this map-based site provides real-time event and incident data for the Leeds area.
