Abstract

This paper focuses on details of the first ITS R&D project in Korea. Scopes of newly developed systems and algorithms are introduced along with background of ITS R&D and current status of the ITS activities in Korea. 12 projects were selected for the first year of the ITS R&D, and these were planned and managed by the Korea Transport Institute. 12 projects are emphasized on two fields: 6 projects are system related technology development fields, and the others are algorithm development field. RFP was distributed, and 12 out of 65 proposals were selected. In total, approximately 1 million US$ of project fund was allocated, and projects were completed on December 1998. Although there were limited research periods and funds, evaluation results revealed that the first year of the projects were successful, and R&D projects will be continued to boost ITS in Korea.
