Abstract

This paper describes a project to design and deliver footpath-mounted variable information signs for pedestrians. The project scope is to design and deliver a network of electronic information signs dedicated for use by pedestrians and located at key locations within the City of London. Their main purpose is to provide real-time information on tube and bus travel services, as well as displaying live data extracted from the Transport for London website. A central system will control the signs and also enable the City of London to display suites of messages, either manually or through an automated scheduling system. These messages could include a proportion of advertising media. Secure communications will be provided direct to eachsign installation via ADSL links over leased copper circuits. For the covering abstract see ITRD E134653.
