Abstract

The Metropolitan Expressway Public Corporation has introduced a new traffic control system, System 97, that addresses many of the problems found in the current traffic control system and improves efficiency of the complex expressway network. System 97 provides optimized traffic and routing control through flow forecasts and distributes and averages congestion while preventing secondary disasters which might otherwise result from accidents. In conjunction with the earthquake instrumentation and tunnel disaster prevention systems, System 97 provides users with prompt, accurate emergency information needed to prevent secondary disasters and ensure road safety. System 97 is intended as the forerunner to ITS, which will totally upgrade the current traffic control systems.
