Abstract

In this contribution the effects of infrastructure on the spatial distribution of activities are studied, especially on the location of work places and dwellings. After discussing conceptual issues such as a definition of infrastructure a concise review of studies at three spatial levels is given: urban, interregional and international. At all levels both modelling and non-modelling approaches are used. The study ends with a list of data and research issues which deserve attention in future research.
