Abstract

In a series of field experiments night driving visibility distances are measured for European halogen (H4) headlights and American sealed beam headlights. The tests have been carried out for various relevant traffic situations. Results show that the European more intensive high beams gives a 15% longer visibility distance on straight roads, while in sharp curves the difference is negligible.
