Abstract

A nation wide investigation of accident patterns at signal controlled intersections is discussed. This investigation is set up to determine: (1) whether a recorded increase in accidents at signalised intersections was greater than could be expected; (2) appropriate measures to stop this increase; and (3) any further research in a particular field which would be worthwhile. Remedial measures recommended included-traffic signal co-ordination, a separate phase for right turning traffic, the up grading of lanterns and control of illuminated advertisement and improved pedestrian protection.
