Abstract

The authors conducted development and verification of an onboard information platform, which can be used for the new communication media to be introduced by 2008 and interoperable with the mobile information equipment and vehicle control system that will become more intelligent in future. This platform is designed for creating a seamless network over the inside and outside of the vehicle, by connecting the mobile information equipment brought into the vehicle and various onboard equipment, which have different specifications and conditions regarding the reliability and the relation to the vehicle's driving & safety characteristics. Because of this, the authors examined the specifications of the upper layer protocol of the in-vehicle network (IDB-M; ITS Data Bus for Multimedia), communication gateway and vehicle gateway. They also examined the onboard equipment function describing specifications required for configuring the operating environment of the mobile information equipment brought into the vehicle or for expanding the onboard equipment, and conducted the proof test by building up a verification system.
