Abstract

The emission caps of air pollutants are defined for all regions in the Czech Republic. The emission cap for NOx is exceeded in the Central Bohemia Region and the VOC emission limit cap is currently almost filed. The Central Bohemia Region has unique geographical position and that the region rounds Prague the capital of the Czech Republic. The significant air emission source is the transport both transit traffic and public transport toward Prague in the region in context its position. Therefore Department of environment and agriculture of the Central Bohemia Regional Authority called public competition for the study of clean public transport in the Central Bohemia Region with the goal to reduce air emission from the transport. Transport Research Centre was succeed and elaborated the study. The paper presents solutions of the study and also recommendation for clean public vehicles introduction. The three scenarios of clean public vehicles introduction were created with using CNG, biodiesel, bioethanol fuels and new diesel EURO 4, EURO 5 bus operation in the study according to indicative goals of European union to replace conventional fuels by alternative fuels, public transport companies position of alternative fuels introduction to the fleet and the region requirement to using clean vehicles. The first scenario reflected the European directive proposal on the promotion of clean road transport vehicles. Second scenario was created according to public transport companies research with the goal to find out public transport operators positions to alternative fuels introduction to the fleet. The third scenario reflected the effect of Ecological standard of the Central Bohemia Regional Authority that requires using 5 % vehicles operated on alternative fuels of the fleets of the public transport companies involved into integrated transport system till 2015. For all the three scenarios were calculated emission from public transport in the Central Bohemia Region according to emission factors and bus fleet renovation to 2016. The recommendations and their applications in the field of clean public vehicles introduction in the Central Bohemia Region are described at the close of the paper.
