Abstract

In February 1974 the maximum speed limit in Colorado was reduced to 55 mph, and approximately 6000 miles (65%) of the State highway mileage as well as an unknown amount of the County road mileage was affected. Speed limits on these roads prior to the reduction ranged up to a maximum of 70 mph. During the seven-month period February through August 1974, Colorado fatal accidents have declined 12.7% over the same period of 1973.
