Abstract

Analytical techniques and related experimental measurements on the proving ground are used to study the steady state and transient handling behaviour of coaches. A simple computer model providing for lateral, yaw and steering motions together with non linear tyre properties is used up to the break a-way limit of adhesion. Handling variations due to yaw moment of inertia, Wheelbase and weight distribution are studied of both high and low friction surfaces.
